If you are concerned with cost and other problems after Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware ,Proxmox is one of the best hypervisor choice. The only questions bothered the Sys Admins was how to Migrate VMs from VMware to Proxmox
Proxmox 8.1 have added the feature to migrate the VMware VMs to Proxmox Environments.
Enable No Subscription repository in Proxmox Go to Updates , Add: Repository ,Select No-Subscription
Also select no subscriptions for ceph if you intend to use ceph , run update and upgarde to get the latest updates.
Once updates are completed go to Datacenter , Storage ,Click Add , in Drop down list select ESXI
Add Details of ESXI Server and Click Add to proceed
Click on Data center then click ESXI Storage
Select the virtual machine and click import. Change any settings in VM config if needed and import vm.
Install VirtIO Drivers if required , in my case Windows 10 VMs worked with out addition of VirtIO.
